The Number You're Watching Is the Wrong One

Heart rate tells you how hard the pump is working. It doesn't tell you if the delivery arrived.

Your smartwatch has trained you to watch beats per minute. It's a useful number. But a heart rate of 72 tells you the pump is running at a normal speed — it says nothing about whether oxygen is actually reaching your blood.

How It Actually Reads You

Blood that's carrying oxygen and blood that isn't absorb light differently. Oxygenated hemoglobin lets more red light pass through; deoxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more of it. Infrared light behaves the opposite way.

The T7 shines both wavelengths — roughly 660 nm red and 940 nm infrared — through your fingertip and measures what comes out the other side. Because your arteries pulse, the signal rises and falls with every heartbeat, which lets the processor separate arterial blood from everything else in the way. The ratio between the two absorption signals gives you the saturation percentage. This is the Beer–Lambert relationship, applied to the one thing it genuinely works for.

That same pulsing signal produces two extras: your pulse rate, and the plethysmograph waveform — the wave shape that tells you whether the reading is trustworthy or whether your hand is just cold.

Using It

  1. Warm your hand and sit still.Cold hands are the number one cause of a bad reading. Rub your palms together for 10 seconds first.

Three things that will ruin your reading

  • Nail polish and gel nails. Especially dark colors. Use a bare finger or turn the device sideways.
  • Cold fingers or a tight sleeve. Poor circulation to the fingertip means there's not enough pulsing signal to read.
  • Moving, talking, or bright light. Sit still, stay quiet, keep it out of direct sunlight or a lamp.

Questions People Ask Before Buying
Does this measure blood sugar?
No. And neither does anything else you clip on a finger. There is currently no needle-free device that can accurately measure blood glucose through the skin — the FDA issued a public safety warning about products claiming otherwise. If you have diabetes, use the meter or CGM your doctor prescribed. The T7 measures blood oxygen and pulse rate.
Does it measure blood pressure?
No. Blood pressure requires a cuff. Any fingertip clip claiming to give you systolic and diastolic numbers is guessing. We'd rather sell you one thing that works than six things that don't.
How accurate is it?
Fingertip pulse oximeters of this type are generally specified to within ±2% for SpO₂ between 70–100%, under good conditions — meaning a warm, still hand with good circulation. Cold hands, movement, nail polish, and poor perfusion all widen that margin. Treat readings as a trend to watch, not a lab result.
My reading was low. Should I panic?
No — retake it first. Warm your hands, sit still, wait a full 10 seconds, and try a different finger. Most alarming home readings are technique problems. If you get a consistently low reading across several attempts, or if you have shortness of breath, chest pain, confusion, or bluish lips, contact a healthcare provider or emergency services. Don't wait for the device to tell you twice.
Can I use it on my mother / father / a child?
It's designed for adult fingers. Small children's fingers usually don't fill the clip enough to give a stable reading. For elderly parents it's often the single easiest health device to hand over — one button, big numbers, no app required.
Is it FDA-approved?
